45 Lever Handle / Michael Anastassiades
In the early 2000s, Michael Anastassiades and Bijoy Jain collaborated on a project, aiming to create a unique lever door handle. They incorporated a 17 x 17mm square section rotated at a 45-degree angle, inspired by construction techniques observed in Jain's Studio Mumbai projects. Tilting the square on its edge allowed it to capture light more effectively, making the object visually lighter. This design concept draws parallels with anamorphic drawing, where a square transforms into a diamond when tilted at a 45-degree angle. The creative process led to the extrusion of the rotated section into an L-shaped lever handle, cut at its perpendicular corner to introduce another reflective facet. This unexpected discovery provides a perfect fit when operating the handle.
