PeLi's extraordinary door handles for izé exemplify the designer’s search for interest and difference through the methods of production and making. PeLi (Alexander Pelikan) studied at the Design Academy Eindhoven and began his career in the workshops of Maarten Baas. His subsequent career has seen him commissioned by companies as diverse as WMF and Arpa. PeLi’s ‘A Machine’s Perception’ handle exploits the idea that the design is translated through the mind of a computer, through its algorithms and subsequent digitisations and into a complex web of steel and bronze built up layer by layer in a 3D printing process.
