Maxim Lester is a London-based designer-maker working across furniture, products, and art objects. His practice explores the narrative potential of everyday items, transforming functional objects into carriers of meaning through material and form. Working with metal, textiles, and plastics, Maxim brings craft and curiosity to each piece. Recognising a gap in the decorative potential of electrical elements, he has reimagined the humble switch plate as an object of art, drawing inspiration from historical and contemporary movements to create geometric forms that challenge the boundaries between function and ornament. One piece to pay attention to is the Hepworth Switch plate, echoing Barbara Hepworth’s modernist sculptures. This piece exemplifies Maxim’s ability to translate artistic language into everyday objects, inviting us to see the familiar in a new light. His work investigates the interplay of form, context, and symbolism - where even the simplest gesture becomes a sculptural experience.
