Dimple door knob
Based on the proportions and outline of an antique door knob, this version incorporates a dimple for the thumb to introduce an element of surprise and delight in touch. Created specifically and exclusively for the Raven Row Gallery in London's Spitalfields, it is in a dark bronze, which evokes the charred timbers found in photographs following a fire in the building in the 1970s. In this stripped-down combination of neutral but engaged restoration and starkly simple new building, the elements that engage with touch - handles, knobs, turns, balustrades etc. - become key communicators of the architectural intent.
